For more than 16 years, Vladimir Putin has been the most powerful man in Russia, and the most influential. He started his rise to power in 1999, when he was selected personally by Boris Yeltsin to serve as prime minister.
Putin served as prime minister from 1999 to 2000, when he was elected as President, and run the country till 2008. In 2008, Putin couldn’t run for President, so he ran for Prime Minister, and won. In 2012, Putin again ran for President, and since May 2012, he serves as the President of Russia.
But how did the enigmatic leader became so powerful? As one of the opposition leaders, Ksenia Ponomareva says, their error was not only “believing in Putin, but also creating him”.
The documentary focuses mainly on situation in Russia that preceded Putin and his Presidency, mainly on the money laundry scandal that costed Boris Yeltsin his presidency. That scandal has shaped Russia and its policy from the 1990s, till nowadays.
