You have probably heard the words, “Remember, remember the 5th of November”. The words are association to the Gunpowder plot. The date is the one on which Guy Fawkes, a Catholic renegade, dramatically failed to blow up London’s House of Lords.
The memory has been preserved for more than 400 years. Nowadays, some people might regard Guy Fawkes as a terrorist, and others as a hero. He tried to fight wrongdoing in the only way he could.
The Gunpowder plot was a failed attempt to blow up England’s King James I and the Parliament on November 5, 1605. The plot was organized by Robert Catesby in an effort to end the persecution of Roman Catholics by the English government.
Their plan was to blow up the House of Lords during the State Opening of Parliament on 5 November 1605. And then install his nine-year-old daughter Elizabeth as the Catholic head of state.
