Nadia Comaneci was born in Romania. She became the first woman to score a perfect 10 in an Olympic gymnastics event. She was only 14 years old when she scored several 10s at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal.
Some would argue that Olga Korbut should have gotten a perfect 10 at the 1972 Munich Olympics. Yet, Nadia got the first 10, and she became a legend. Her legacy still lives on, as she and Olga serve as inspiration for many young girls who enter the world of gymnastics.
Fun fact: before the 1976 Olympics, Omega, who served as the official score keeper, asked if they need to setup 10. But the organizer said that doesn’t happen in gymnastics. So, when Nadia scored perfect 10, the score showed 1.00.
This video features Nadia, who now coaches young gymnasts and helps people in her homeland, as well as some modern gymnasts, like Simone Biles.
