Some say that the movie is a love letter by Tarantino to the Golden Age of Hollywood. But it is basically his take on the Tate murders.
The Tate murders were a massive murder, conducted by members of the Manson Family on August 8 and 9th, 1969. They killed five adults, including Sharon Tate who was pregnant at the time.
Tex Watson, Susan Atkins, and Patricia Krenwinkel conducted the murders under the direction of Charles Manson.
As you would expect, Tarantino doesn’t show that version of the story. Because of the controversy surrounding the movie and the story, here is an explanation of what happened in 1969.
