The Other Dream Team is a narrative film directed by Marius A. Markevicius. It covers the uplifting story of the 1992 Lithuania national basketball team and their trip to the bronze award at the Summer Olympics in Barcelona.
Other than the team, the documentary is looking into the history of this sport in Lithuania. The fall of the Soviet Union permitted Lithuania to restore its autonomy and enter the Olympics as a free nation. Following 50 years of Soviet persecution, the Lithuanian basketball team was an image of trust and liberation.
The film incorporates interviews with numerous popular figures of this sport such as Arvydas Sabonis, David Stern, Jim Lampley, Bill Walton, and Šarūnas Marciulionis. The title fo the documentary makes reference to the Dream Team, the first American Olympic b-ball group to include NBA players.
Marius A. Markevicius is a Lithuanian-American director. It took him more than three years to complete this documentary. The narrative consolidates chronicled footage with new meetings. The Lithuanians were suggested to talk in English during the filming, but the nature of the topic was overwhelming and it was easier for them to talk in their native language.
