The Alaska Pipeline

The Alaska pipeline was built in the 1970s. In 1976, the pipeline had to scale a sheer cliff face and the workers were ready to quit, but eventually perservered to build a truly wonderful feat of engineering. It was an 800 mile steel pipe through the last remaining true American wilderness of Alaska. The enterprise drew in a huge number of people from all over the World who worked for years to build the pipeline, where ultimately US money pushed the wonderful feat through.
