Laboratories serve as a way to learn more about bacteria, viruses, and other dangerous forms that can alternate our life. In order to find a way to prevent and fight off viruses, we have to examine them.
But examining viruses is not an easy task. They have to be put in a containment facility. Otherwise, they might contaminate an entire population.
Located within the high containment facility at the Australian Animal Health Laboratory in Geelong Victoria, the Biosecurity Research Facility is the most advanced biosecure laboratory. This lab is home of many viruses, some of the nastiest known to science, like the SARS virus.
The laboratory provides Australia with the necessary biosecure and biosafe infrastructure required to undertake research so that scientists can tackle increasing biosecurity threats.
