A cleft lip and cleft palate are facial and oral malformations that occur early in pregnancy. This happens when the baby is developing inside the mother, but the malformations can last a lifetime.
Clefting happens when there is not enough tissue in the mouth or lip area. A cleft lip is a physical split or separation of the two sides of the upper lip. Cleft palate is a split or opening in the roof of the mouth.
Both malformations can lower a person’s self-esteem. There is a way to fix it, and that is surgery. Both disorders can result in speech problems, hearing problems, feeding problems, and frequent ear infections.
Dr. Jaideep Singh Chuahan and his team at the CHL Hospitals Indore has partnered with the global cleft charity Smile Train to help children born with cleft lip and palate. This documentary is a testament to the life-impacting work they have done.
The documentary is based on real life stories of children born with a disorder. All of them received free surgical care under the Smile Train program at the CHL Hospitals Indore in India in Myanmar.
The documentary received Award of Recognition in “Impact DOCS Awards” USA.
