The most spectacular and magnificent structures in the world constructed by man or by Nature are regularly being compiled to put together a comprehensive catalogue of the Wonders of the World.
The first ever known list of the most extraordinary man-made creation is ‘The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World’, which was based on the guide books widely known among Hellenic Sight-seers and only includes the creations around the Mediterranean belt. The Greeks believed number seven to be a representative of perfection and plenty, and hence the number was chosen to mark the most amazing structures of the world. The lists for the Medieval World and the Modern World are some other lists on similar lines.
