‘Riding Giants’ is a beautifully directed documentary presenting Laird Hamilton, who is considered to be a big reason for the sport’s popularity, as a towering hero and the sport as adrenaline-rushing, testing the most heroic and seasoned surfers. The highlight of the movie is a scene with a gigantic wave that Hamilton tackled on his trip to Tahiti in 2000; it is called “the most significant ride in surfing history.”
Hamilton was really driven and became popular in the modeling industry as well.
The film is written and directed by Stacy Peralta, who shows the star of this movie along with his fellow surfers to border on the extremes of obsession and dedication to this sport, pursuing the enormous waves for a sense of achievement and fulfillment.
The cinematography beautifully captures the strenuous physical pain that surfers undergo and the tribute that surfers pay to their brethren who had lost their lives in an attempt to tackle the unshackled waves.
