Sometimes, we need something old to remind us of the state of our world. Women have been portrayed wrongly by the media for so many years.
Miss Representation is a straightforward look into the problematic and reductive ways media portrays women. The message is old, and it is nothing groundbreaking, but that doesn’t make it any less interesting.
The fact of the matter is that the way media portrays women has not changed much in the last decade. We see improvements of the way women are represented in media, but we are still a long way to get there.
In 2015, Justin Trudeu made a revolution. After being elected for Canadian Prime Minister, he filled half of his cabinet with women. Asked why he did that, he said “Because it is 2015”.
And he is right, it is 2017 now, and maybe it is time for the way we portray women to change. This documentary will remind us how important that is.
