The humanzee is one of the worst experiments mankind could come up with. As it stands, the humanzee was envisioned as a hybrid between a male human, and a female chimpanzee.
Ilya Ivanovich Ivanov was the man responsible for the experiments. He initially pitched the idea in 1910, and by the early 1920s, he started experimenting on chimps.
His works were later examined again by the 1970s, when some scientists experiment with the chimp named Oliver.
But it was mostly Ivanov who was responsible for the popularization of the term “humanzee”. Since he was living in the Soviet Union, it was only natural that Joseph Stalin showed interest for his experiments.
The documentary explores the relationship and interest of Stalin into Ivanov’s experiments. He also organized experiments with ape sperm and human volunteers, but his experiment was delayed by the death of his last orangutan. He was exiled by the Soviet Government by 1930.
