Imagine if your heart can repair itself? At the moment, it is just a theory and a research. The research, conducted by a tissue engineering and biomaterials science teams from Netherlands, Switzerland and Germany, the research is a result of a work by a multidisciplinary collaboration of top institutes.
ImaValve is the end product, a heart valve of intelligent materials. These implants can be repeatedly replaced. They carry all of the health risks that replacing involves, including condemning the patient to a lifetime of drug therapy to combat rejection.
However, even as such, these implants present a major breakthrough in the field of heart health and heart therapy. They present a result of decades of innovative fundamental research into a living heart valve that lasts a lifetime.
Just one operation is enough. The goal of the team of scientists is to create a heart valve that can be used for children with heart disease. The product will vastly reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, and other cardiovascular diseases that children with heart disease have to battle.
The short movie best describe the work the international team has done.
