The tree houses in Hambach Forest have long been a symbol of resistance against open-pit lignite mining. But now, the authorities are taking action to evict dozens of activists who are fighting to save the forest from being clear-cut for lignite mining. This is where the documentary, Third Person, begins.
The film follows Antje Grothus, a resident of a neighboring village, who supports the tree house dwellers and believes that brown coal is not a fuel for the future. The recent death of a journalist during the eviction has only reinforced the activists’ conviction that dependence on coal must stop. Third Person provides a gripping and thought-provoking commentary on Germany’s increasing reliance on coal as an energy source while highlighting the ongoing fight of the activists in Hambach Forest.
