Hans Rudolf “Ruedi” Giger, was a Swiss surrealist painter, sculptor and set designer. He finished the study of architecture and industrial design at the School of Applied Arts in Zurich. Giger had a specific style of creating art that was surreal and nightmarish. He started with small ink drawings before he progressed to oil paintings, but almost his whole career he worked in airbrush. He represented human bodies and machines in an interconnected relationship that he called Biomechanical.
One of his most recognizable works is the creation of the Alien creature for the movie in 1979, he created almost everything in this move from spaceships, creatures the alien egg. The effects and creations were so good for that year that they even got the Academy Award for it. He made furniture, bars and whole rooms in his unique style, even the singer of Korn was amazed by his art and asked his to make him a microphone stand which he did. Giger last work was on the movie Prometheus, using the concept art from the Alien franchise. This documentary will show you some of the things he did why and how he chooses his themes.
