‘Good Copy Bad Copy’ reveals the discrepancy between laws in different countries and how they are exploited.
The film highlights the attitudes towards art, culture and copyright in a number of countries, including the US, Sweden, Russia, Nigeria, and Brazil.
It accounts the inconsistency between current copyright law and recent technological advances that enable the Sampling of music, as well as the distribution of copyrighted material via peer-to-peer file sharing search engines such as The Pirate Bay.
Dan Glickman, CEO of MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America), when interviewed in reference to a raid by the Swedish Police against The Pirate Bay in May 2006, stated that It was impossible to prevent piracy, all that can be done is to try and make it more difficult for the people who breach the copyrights.
In this respect, when Gottfrid Svartholm and Fredrik Neij from The Pirate Bay are interviewed, they plainly state that The Pirate Bay is illegal according to US law, but not Swedish law!
