Moises, a young community figure from an indigenous community in rural Mexico, was given an opportunity of a lifetime – to volunteer in Germany through the government’s volunteer exchange program “weltwärts”. Moises works in an addiction support center in Bielefeld, using his studying background in social work to help others.
Once a program only available to young German volunteers, “weltwärts” is now open to young people from all over the world. Moises is among the handful of young people who have taken advantage of this exchange opportunity, with the chance to learn new concepts in the German social environment to bring back to his community in Mexico. In this report by Anna Marie Goretzki, learn more about Moises and how the “weltwärts” program has impacted his life and community.
