Gearing Up is a story about 4 teams of high school students who participated in a Robotics competition. The drama and the nervous excitement that builds up as the Robotics national Competition nears is captured in this documentary.
Identical robot kits are provided to each team sans any instruction and are given six weeks to build specific task performing robots. The chemistry and reasons for formation of each team is distinctly unique. Miss Daisy is from Wissahickon High School in Ambler, Pennsylvania and is the most veteran team featured. Rambotics, an all boys team are from a correctional facility want to prove their mettle to themselves as well as their community; they are from Ridge View Academy in Watkins, Colorado. Ratchet Rockers are from Holt High School and Timberland High School in Wentzville, Missouri in their fourth year of competition. RoboDoves are from Western High School, an all girls team from an all girl school in Baltimore, Maryland. The interplay of emotions that these teams undergo is captured beautifully.
