Millions of women around the world are in search of a better life, but for some, the pursuit of the dream ends up in a nightmare. In particular, women from Romania and Bulgaria fall prey to human traffickers, lured with promises of a well-paid job only to be forced into sex slavery in German brothels. The problem is made worse because sex work is legal in Germany, leading to a flourishing sex trade industry that is hard to track and regulate.
In this heart-wrenching documentary, viewers are taken on a journey through the lives of these women and their struggle to survive against all odds. The film follows the story of Sascha, for instance, who served up to thirty clients a day until she eventually found escape through the help of Amalie – an advisory and support service for women in the industry based in Mannheim. Through their tireless efforts and resilience, Sascha and Amalie’s story is one of hope and a testament to the power of hope in the face of insurmountable odds.
