The Hong Kongers Nathan Law, Finn Lau, Simon Cheng and Jim Wong all have one thing in common: they share the same fate of living in exile in London, fighting for democracy in their homeland while simultaneously attempting to build a new life abroad. The documentary takes a close look at the lives of these four activists, who had to hastily flee Hong Kong to avoid persecution for speaking up against the draconian security law that came into force last year.
Despite being in the safe haven of Great Britain, the four exiles are still dogged by the constant fear of attack or abduction by the Chinese government, which views them as enemies of the state. The documentary offers a rare insight into the everyday struggles of these individuals as they navigate the challenges of living in isolation, unable to say goodbye to their families and friends they left behind in Hong Kong. With the world battling the pandemic, the documentary also highlights their efforts amidst a socially-distanced London.
