Patients thought of Dr. Harold Shipman as a kind, capable, and caring GP. But for 25 years, he carried out a relentless campaign of death, claiming hundreds of victims in two small towns in Britain.
He is considered the biggest serial killer in the United Kingdom. Unsuspected for years, Shipman selected his victims from his patient list. There were clues, but nobody in the community believed that a doctor would kill his patients.
Dr. Harold Shipman, or Dr. Death, as he is known in Britain, is suspected of killing over 350 people during his career. What alerted the police was a clumsy attempt at forging the will of one of his victims.
Arrested, and found guilty on January 31, 2000, he is still one of the most prolific serial killers in history. Shipman never accepted his guilt, and committed suicide before he was transferred to prison.
