Introduction: Join us on an epic journey from Kinshasha to Kisangani, the third largest city in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). In this vast country, the only ways to travel between the two cities are by boat or plane. We embarked on a treacherous voyage, joining 1,500 people onboard the ‘Gbemani’ and sailing along the Congo River.
Body: The journey was perilous; without fresh water, electricity, or medicines. We were at the mercy of the river, and the tropical climate made things even more challenging. However, there were moments of joy. A baby was born on the ship, named ‘Gbemani’ after its humble beginnings. This joy was tempered by the grim reality of life on the river.
A nurse looked after fellow travellers, who were sick, injured, and scared. The nurse even performed a terrifying operation to save a man’s foot without anaesthetic. Everyone on board had a story, and these stories were woven into the fabric of our journey.
Conclusion: This is a journey that you do not want to miss. It is a testament to human resilience and the will to survive against the odds. Watch the documentary and experience the beauty and brutality of life on the Congo River.
