HER is a documentary that tells the stories of female artists who use their creative expressions to navigate social norms and push for gender equality in their communities. The film captures the lives of women from all corners of Asia including Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippines, Taiwan and Thailand, with each episode featuring three women as they offer their insights on universal, existential and crucial topics such as motherhood, careers in male-dominated professions, money, and self-expression.
Through a lens that is both powerful and honest, “HER” brings viewers face-to-face with the struggles and triumphs of women from different cultures as they seek to claim their voices and assert their rights. Follow Malaysian artist Yante Ismail as she challenges the norms of patriarchal society with her nude paintings, or Uzma Ashraf, the Pakistani Kathak dancer who uses dance as a way to connect with her body and express herself in ways not easy for women in Pakistan. Finally, be inspired by Kartika Jahja, also known as Tika, the Indonesian musician and sexual assault survivor whose activism is expressed through music.
