Upcoming 2023 action movies are filled with surprises. There are actors we thought we’d never see in action, movie sequels we never thought we’d see on screen again and exciting new approaches to this genre.
If you haven’t seen any new action films this year, don’t miss these upcoming 2023 ones. Some are worth your time but others aren’t so much. However, even the most overrated action movies of 2023 will have people glued to their screens because we’re all curious about what they have for us this time around.
1. Assassin – An Action Packed Sci-Fi Thriller
Assassin is an action film with a twist. Starring Bruce Willis who trains a futuristic military crew of assassins to take on deadly missions. He uses a microchip to help agents embody another person that’ll give them the power to carry out these missions.
When an agent played by Mustafa Shakir dies on a mission, his wife, played by the South African actress Nomzamo Mbatha who starred in Coming to America 2, takes over. She aims to bring the man responsible for her husband’s death to justice.
This Suban Films’ action sci-fi thriller will be out on Friday 31 March.
2. John Wick: Chapter 4 – Your Favourite Dog-Loving Assassin
Is John Wick dying this time around? We hope not. The star of this sequel, Keanu Reeves is back to assassinate more aiming for his life. If you loved the previous three John Wick sequels, then you’ll love this one.
It’s shot in four cosmopolitan cities: Berlin, Paris, New York and Tokyo. With the film’s quality graphics, you’ll see the action and stunts pulled in some of the most remarkable places in the world.
You’ll also encounter some of your favourite stars like Ian McShane, Donnie Yen and Laurence Fishburne.
3. Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves – Let’s Gamble With Our Expectations of This One
If you’ve watched the best gambling movies in history, then it’s time to put your experience to use. The Dungeons and Dragons that was released in 2000 was a disappointment for many. The upcoming Honor Among Thieves seems great and there’s an element of comedy within this action fantasy.
This can be a good or bad thing, especially given that the last one starred Marlon Wayans. We’re all crossing our fingers for a good outcome. Comedy has worked well with action fantasies before and this could too.
Also, luckily for us, this time around the cast is promising and the directors have produced pretty good movies before. It’s written and directed by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley who are famous for the movies: Game Night and Horrible Bosses.
The cast includes Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Rege-Jean Page, Justice Smith and more. This fun action fantasy will be released on 31 March 2023.
4. Fast X – Is This the Last Part of the Sequel?
Fast and the Furious got a little tiring to watch a few series back. People think that Dom and his family should take a break now and focus on other endeavours. But have you seen the opponent they’re about to face on Fast X?
We have to give to this franchise for being able to keep us curious enough to see whether they’ll be able to survive the near-impossible missions they face every time a new opponent comes. This time, the emphasis is on family and Jason Momoa is here to wipe out Vin Diesel’s.

5. Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One
Speaking of near-impossible missions, Tom Cruise is back with Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One. This highly anticipated action movie had its trailer released a year before its release date and we’ve been eagerly waiting since then.
Tom Cruise picks the seemingly losing side again to fight for a good course against the elite. The movie is kept alive by a series of tricky events where the agent, Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise), faces dangerous situations but pulls impossible stunts to get out of them.
The action continues and it seems like Dead Reckoning will have a part two. For now, we’re looking forward to watching its first part on the 14 of July 2023.
We All Have To Watch and See if Our Expectations Are Met

These are action movies that everyone’s been talking about and looking forward to. Some are more interesting than others but we have to admit, they’ve all been able to grab our attention.
Their storylines, cast members and directors are some of the elements that grab our attention about these new movies. Most of them are sequels of well-known franchises and we’re excited to find out what they’ve cooked for us this time around.
